Documenting Our Journey to Becoming Lesbian Moms Through IVF

Hello! And welcome! We’re excited to share our journey through IVF with all of you. When researching all of the ways to start a family we turned to many books, blogs and podcasts of couples and families to decide how we wanted to persue this journey and what to expect. This helped immensely! Although we found a lot of really great resources along the way, it seems there are many ways for an LGBTQ couple to start a family in this day and age. We enjoyed sharing in all of their adventures vicariously, but in the end, none were exactly the path we’ve decided to go down.

The first purpose of this blog is to put our journey out there for anyone, like us, looking for information about what to expect during this process. We are a married lesbian couple from Canada. We haven’t tried to conceive in the past and have decided to go straight to IVF. Furthermore, we’re working with a fertility clinic outside of our home country to try to make our family dreams a reality. We’ll get into a lot more detail about all of this in our blog posts. We’ll be sure to share with you the whole process, procedures, and costs along the way – all of the information that we wanted so badly while researching our options.

Secondly, we wanted a space to document the journey for friends and family. So far we’ve been going this journey alone. It’s a huge step in our relationship and we wanted to take the time to focus on ourselves and the journey. Our friends and family all know that we plan to start a family, but we’ve opted not to share all the details of this process with them just yet. We want to be pregnant and sure before we make a big announcement. There are just so many unknowns along the way and no guarantee this will work right away. We’re nervous enough for everyone and don’t feel like this is the time to let them all in. We know, however, when, and if, a pregnancy announcement is made there will be a ton of questions about the whole process. This will help us to document it and allow our family and friends in on what we were feeling and going through every step of the way.

We’re so excited to start this journey!
